Life Roles

Ten ways of taking part in the world.

A Life Role describes the kind of change you repeatedly want to make. It is not a personality diagnosis, a job title, or an identity you must keep forever.

The complete role atlas

Read for recognition, then test against real life.

  1. Explorer

When a question opens onto something real, I want to follow it all the way to evidence.Investigates unfamiliar territory, anomalies, and unanswered questions, then leaves behind knowledge other people can use.
  2. Creator

When something that existed only in my mind takes form, I feel alive.Makes original expressions, concepts, designs, inventions, and possibilities that give an inner idea a shareable form.
  3. Builder

I am most satisfied when a useful thing can finally stand, run, and keep its promise.Organizes people, systems, materials, and repeated effort until an idea becomes reliable in the real world.
  4. Leader

When a group is stuck, I want to name what matters, make the hard choice, and help us move together.Creates collective commitment by setting direction, holding responsibility, making consequential decisions, and enabling coordinated action.
  5. Cultivator

I can see what is not ready yet, and I want to give it the conditions and time to mature.Develops people, capabilities, communities, or living systems patiently, without forcing them into a predetermined shape.
  6. Caregiver

When someone is hurting or unable to carry what life demands, I want to make the next moment more bearable.Responds to pain, fragility, illness, or overload with practical support that reduces suffering and helps life recover.
  7. Guardian

I notice what could be lost, and I am willing to do the unglamorous work that keeps it safe.Protects people, values, places, institutions, memory, and shared resources by anticipating harm and strengthening resilience.
  8. Connector

I often see the relationship that is missing—and feel relief when the right people finally meet.Recognizes useful relationships across boundaries and creates trust, exchange, collaboration, and access between separated parts.
  9. Experiencer

I do not only want to understand life from a distance; I want to be there and feel it directly.Participates deeply through the senses, the body, place, relationship, and presence, making life vivid rather than merely efficient.
  10. Seeker

I cannot settle for borrowed answers; I need what I believe and how I live to meet each other.Pursues understanding of meaning, value, identity, and existence, then tests that understanding through an examined life.

How to notice a role

Use evidence, including evidence against the label.

Attention
What do you notice before other people ask you to?
Automatic action
What do you begin doing without needing a title?
Process energy
Which work absorbs you before any reward arrives?
After-effect
What leaves you tired but deeply satisfied?
Sacrifice
What inconvenience are you repeatedly willing to bear?
Counterevidence
Where does the role fail to describe your real behavior?

Method boundary

Keep the category as a hypothesis.

The atlas offers language and evidence prompts. It does not diagnose, rank lives, calculate destiny, or guarantee a career.
