Fictional composite

Experience — Sophie Nguyen

Create a financially and professionally honest sabbatical that allows depth, family connection, and a deliberate return.

Fictional composite. One possible Path for one person at one moment—not a model answer or recommendation.

Path Goal

I want a 10–12 week season with unhurried time among family in Vietnam, slower travel, and enough space afterward to understand what the experience changes.

Success Evidence

  • I spend at least six weeks living near family in Vietnam rather than turning the entire period into rapid sightseeing.
  • I have time for rest, ordinary family life, and unscheduled days—not a second job made of travel logistics and content.
  • The experience does not create consumer debt, an unsafe work arrangement, or an unstable return to housing and employment.
  • After a month of reintegration, I can name something the experience changed in my relationships, attention, or ordinary choices.

Current Position

I’m a 29-year-old remote data analyst in Vancouver. I’m single, have saved about four months of expenses, and have relatives in Vietnam I know mostly through short visits and calls. Remote work makes extended travel look simple, but I have not verified whether I can legally or securely work abroad, and secretly working through a “sabbatical” would defeat the point.

Current Move

Tomorrow I’ll review my leave, remote-work, security, benefits, and return-to-role policies. I’ll then send HR one written request for the rules and approval process without booking flights or presenting the trip as already decided.
