Transfer knowledge, authority, and fair ownership choices so the business can continue without forcing a family successor.

Fictional composite. One possible Path for one person at one moment—not a model answer or recommendation.

Path Goal

By 2029, I want the company I built to operate well without my routine decisions, with a fair and freely chosen ownership path and enough personal security for me to step back.

Success Evidence

  • The business can run for four ordinary weeks without my routine approvals or private fixes.
  • Critical knowledge and customer relationships are held by capable leaders, not only by me.
  • A successor, management, employee, family, or sale path is chosen through informed consent and a defensible valuation—not obligation.
  • Employees and key customers experience continuity, and my retirement security does not depend on staying indispensable.

Current Position

I’m 58 and have owned a 46-person Phoenix manufacturing company for 27 years. My daughter has said she does not want to run it; my nephew leads operations but does not control capital or strategy. I have experienced leaders and loyal customers, but many exceptions still come to me, and too much knowledge lives in my memory.

Current Move

For the next five working days, I’ll log every request that reaches me, why it reached me, what information or authority was missing, who could own it in the future, and what would have happened if I were unavailable.
