Build a high-responsibility life with real off-duty periods, less rumination, and reliable coverage.

Fictional composite. One possible Path for one person at one moment—not a model answer or recommendation.

Path Goal

I want to lead through real pressure without carrying work in my head every quiet minute, and to have regular periods when I am genuinely off duty.

Success Evidence

  • For eight to twelve weeks, I protect two evenings and one half-day each week without routine work checks.
  • After-hours contact is mostly limited to clearly defined escalations that another person cannot safely handle.
  • My sleep, recovery, and ability to be present improve rather than being replaced by hidden catch-up work.
  • The team knows who covers what, and I know when the pattern needs role redesign or qualified professional support.

Current Position

I’m a 36-year-old startup COO in Austin. The company has real customer, cash, and people risks, but I also check work during calm moments when no incident exists. I have a capable team, a supportive partner, five days I can take off, and up to $4,000 for useful support. I do not yet know how much of my vigilance is necessary and how much is habit or rumination.

Current Move

For seven days, whenever I want to check work outside planned hours, I’ll make a 30-second note: the trigger, the risk I imagine, whether I am the named owner, what would happen by morning, and whether I checked.
